SYMPTOMS

When a Word for Windows 2.0 or 6.0 document containing an encapsulated PostScript (EPS) image is opened in Word for the Macintosh 6.0 or 6.0.1 and printed to a PostScript device, one of the following may result:

• If the EPS graphic contains a bitmap preview image, the bitmap preview image may be printed at the same position as the PostScript image. The two images will overlap.



• If the EPS graphic does not contain a bitmap preview image, a bounding box containing the EPS creator application name, creation date, and title (if any) may be printed in the same position as the intended PostScript image. Again, the two images will overlap.



• A PostScript printing error may be received. The document and images may print, only a portion of the document leading up to the location of the EPS image may print, or the document may not print at all.

CAUSE

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Windows Metafile converter supplied with Word 6.0 and 6.0.1 for the Macintosh. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition.

RESOLUTION

Remove the problematic image from the converted document, transfer the original EPS graphic file from the source PC to your Macintosh, and then reinsert the image into Word using the Picture command on the Insert menu.
