SYMPTOMS

When you repeatedly open, close, and save a project, irrelevant data is added to the project file; this data increases the file size of the project. Note also that when you perform these actions you may also lose system memory.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do the following:

1. Save the file to the MPX format and reopen it to reclaim file space.



2. Close Microsoft Project to free lost memory.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.

The rate of file size increase depends both on the version of Microsoft Project and on the platform you are using; however, the increase is independent of the starting file size. Note, however, that the rate of memory loss increases with the file size.
