PUB2: Can't Convert Pictures Error Using Photo CD Import Filter

SYMPTOMS
========

When you try to import more than three Photo CD (.pcd) files into Publisher
2.0 or 2.0a during a single session, you will receive the following error
message:

   Can't convert pictures.

   Publisher doesn't recognize the format of the picture you want
   to add.

   Publisher has graphics converters that enable it to recognize most
   pictures' formats. Some of these converters may be missing. Run the
   Setup program again, and choose Custom Installation to install
   converters for word processors and graphics. Press F1 now if you want
   more information on running Setup.

If you try to re-import a fourth .pcd file, you will receive a second error
message and will continue to get the second message until you restart
Publisher. The second error message is as follows:

   MS Photo CD Import Filter
   This file is not recognized as a Kodak Photo CD (PCD) file.

CAUSE
=====

This error occurs because of a limitation of the Pcdlib.dll file installed
with Publisher 2.0 or 2.0a. This file enables the import of .pcd files.

STATUS
======

A new version of Pcdlib.dll has been developed and is shipped with
Microsoft programs released after 2.0a was released. There is currently
no means to obtain the Pcdlib.dll file separately.

WORKAROUND
==========

If you save the current file with the previously imported .pcd files and
then restart Publisher and reopen the file, you can add three additional
.pcd files before getting the same error message. To do this, follow these
steps:

1. Import no more than three .pcd files.

2. Save your Publisher file.

3. Quit and then restart Publisher.

4. Open your previously saved file.

Repeat this process as necessary to import the desired number of images.
