Upgrading Windows NT 3.1 to Windows NT 3.51 on Compaq Computers

If you are not using the Compaq SmartStart CD, use the following procedure to upgrade your Compaq computer from Windows NT 3.1 to Windows NT 3.51:
  1. Apply Windows NT 3.1 Service Pack 3 and Compaq Support Software Diskette (SSD) 1.05b.
  2. Upgrade to Windows NT 3.5 and apply Compaq SSD 1.15.
  3. Upgrade to Windows NT 3.51
  4. Re-apply Compaq Software Support Software Diskette SSD 1.15 or later to ensure you are running on the most current drivers.
NOTE: The SmartStart CD includes additional Compaq management files, management services and specific Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) files for Compaq computers.

NOTE: If you have problems with this upgrade on a computer running the TCP/IP network protocol, unintstalling TCP/IP before upgrading and then reinstalling it afterwards may help.
