PUB2: Printing or Low Memory Error Message Opening Publication
PUB2: Printing or Low Memory Error Message Opening Publication
Q133096
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Publisher for Windows, versions 2.0, 2.0a
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
SYMPTOMS
========
When opening up a Publisher 2.0 publication file, you may receive
one or more of the following error messages:
- Error in loading the printer driver.
- Windows is low on memory. Please save your work, close other
applications, and continue.
- Printing could not continue because of an error. Press F1 for more
details.
The file in question may be an old Publisher 2.0 publication file being
opened on a computer other than the one it was created on; or it could be a
machine with an updated version of the printer driver that created the
publication.
CAUSE
=====
The Publisher publication file retains the settings of the previous printer
setup and ignores current printer settings, even if the printer driver is
the same version that created the file. Since the settings do not match,
Publisher will issue one of the above error messages in response to the
error.
STATUS
======
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed
at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Publisher for
Windows 95, version 3.0.
RESOLUTION
==========
There are two methods of resolving this problem:
Method 1: Force Publisher to re-read the printer settings by doing the
following:
a. Open the publication in Publisher.
b. On the File menu, click Print Setup.
c. Select the Specific Printer option, and reselect the same
printer. Click OK.
The publication will now print normally.
Method 2: This also forces Publisher to re-read the printer settings:
