Q133125

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When you convert a document from Enable to Word, underlined spaces do not retain their underline.

CAUSE

Although the underline formatting is still applied to those spaces, Word will not display or print underlined spaces unless at least one valid character follows the space. This behavior is by design.

RESOLUTION

Use one of the following methods to print and display underlined spaces following conversion from Enable.

Method 1: To display and print all underlined spaces when a valid character is not placed after the last space, do the following:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.

  2. Click the Compatibility tab.

  3. Select "Wrap Trailing Spaces to Next Line."

  4. Click OK.

Method 2: To display and print the underlined spaces within a single line, do the following:

  1. Place the insertion point at the end of the line containing the underlined spaces.

  2. Insert a nonbreaking space. To do this, press CTRL+SHIFT+SPACEBAR.

NOTE: You can use other nonprinting characters, such as the tab character in place of the nonbreaking space.
