SYMPTOMS
If you modify any of the following styles
Index Heading
TOA Heading
TOC 1
TOC 2
TOC 3
TOC 4
TOC 5
TOC 6
TOC 7
TOC 8
TOC 9
the changes you make are not reflected when you update the appropriate
index, table of contents, or table of authorities.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when you have created the index or table of contents or
table of authorities by manually typing the field. If you created the index
or table by inserting it from the menu, this problem does not occur.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the products listed at the
beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Word for Windows
95, version 7.0a.
RESOLUTION
Upgrade to Word for Windows 95, version 7.0a.
To obtain Word for Windows 95 version 7.0a, call the Microsoft Order Desk

To temporarily work around this problem, select the index or table and
press CTRL+SPACEBAR. This removes the direct formatting that Word has
applied to those styles.
