SYMPTOMS

Windows 95 does not detect the ET4000/W32i video chip set after you install it in place of a Trident video card.

CAUSE

Windows 95 does not include a video device driver specific to the Trident video adapter. This adapter uses the Framebuf.drv driver. The ET4000/W32i chip set can use the same driver, so Windows 95 does not detect a change.

RESOLUTION

To change the driver, follow these steps:

  1. Use the right mouse button to click an open area on the desktop, and then click Properties on the menu that appears.

  2. On the Settings tab, click Change Display Type.

  3. In the Adapter Type area, click Change.

  4. Click the Show All Devices option button.

  5. In the Manufacturers box, click "(Standard display types)."

  6. In the Models box, click Standard Display Adapter (VGA).

  7. Click OK, click Close, and then click OK.

  8. When you are prompted to restart your computer, do so.

  9. Use the right mouse button to click My Computer, and then click Properties on the menu that appears.

  10. On the Device Manager tab, double-click Display Adapters.

  11. If the Trident video adapter is listed beneath the Display Adapters branch, click the Trident adapter and then click Remove. Click OK. When you are prompted to restart your computer, do so. If the Trident adapter is not listed, close the System properties.

  12. Use the right mouse button to click an open area on the desktop, and then click Properties on the menu that appears.

  13. On the Settings tab, click Change Display Type.

  14. In the Adapter Type area, click Change.

  15. Click the Show All Devices option button.

  16. In the Manufacturers box, click TSENG Labs.

  17. In the Models box, click ET4000 or ET4000/W32i.

  18. Click OK. When you are prompted to restart you computer, do so.
