SYMPTOMS
If you open a Word document that contains pictures, OLE objects, or tables
in Publisher for Windows 95 or Microsoft Publisher 97, those pictures, OLE
objects, or tables will appear in random places on the page.
CAUSE
Publisher is a frame-based program. A publication contains different frames
that each contain a single type of information (text, picture, or OLE). The
page position and size of each frame is saved in the publication.
Word, however, is not a frame-based program. A Word document contains a
single stream of data that can contain text, pictures, and OLE information.
There is no absolute page position information stored for pictures or
tables.
When Publisher converts a Word document, it separates the pictures, tables,
and OLE objects from the text and places them in their own frames. It can
determine which page each of these frames belongs to. However, Publisher
can't determine exactly where to place these frames on each page.
If you open a Word document in Publisher version 2.0 or 1.0, each graphic
or OLE object is placed on a separate page.
WORKAROUND
After you open the document, you must manually drag each picture, table, or
OLE frame to its proper position on the page.
STATUS
Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information
here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
