SYMPTOMS
Although Windows NT LPR conforms to RFC 1179, print job removal (command
code 0x05) is not supported. When you delete a print job in Print Manager,
Windows NT LPR does not send a job removal frame to printer's LPD.
CAUSE
LPR is implemented as a print monitor. The print monitor interface
does not support job removal.
When a print job is deleted from Print Manager, the spooler stops spooling
to the selected print monitor. The spooler does not send a job removal
because there is no interface function. Therefore, the print monitor (LPR)
is not notified of the job removal. Consequently, all characters already
received by the print monitor get printed.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT Workstation and
Server versions 3.5, 3.51, and 4.0. We are researching this problem and
will post new information
here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
