XL5: XLODBC.XLA Only Available for Intel Platform |
There are four different versions of Microsoft Excel for Windows NT, version 5.0. Each version is designed to work on one of the following platforms:
Intel family (80486, Pentium, Pentium Pro)The XLODBC.XLA file that is included with Microsoft Excel for Windows NT, version 5.0, will only work on computers that use the Intel family of processors. XLODBC.XLA will not work on DEC Alpha, MIPS, or PowerPC-based computers.
DEC Alpha
MIPS
PowerPC
The XLODBC.XLA add-in allows you to write Visual Basic for Applications
code that communicates directly with ODBC drivers. Only the Intel-specific
version of Microsoft Excel for Windows NT, version 5.0, includes 32-bit
ODBC drivers; so, XLODBC.XLA is only available for use within that version
of Microsoft Excel for Windows NT.
Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, version 7.0, will run under Windows NT
versions 3.51 and 4.0, but only on the Intel platform. Microsoft Excel 7.0
will NOT run under MIPS, DEC Alpha, or PowerPC-based computers running
Windows NT.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
