SYMPTOMS

Novice: Requires knowledge of the user interface on single-user computers.

When you change the SpecialEffect property of a text box from Flat to Shadowed, the BorderWidth property changes from Hairline to 3 pt. If you change the SpecialEffect property back to Flat, the BorderWidth is unaffected. The result is a text box with a 3 pt. border, which may be wider than you expect.

RESOLUTION

You can manually change the BorderWidth property of the text box to a smaller width, such as Hairline (the default width).

This behavior is by design.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

Create a new form not based on any table or query and open it in Design view.

Add a text box, and set the following properties:

       Name: Text0
       SpecialEffect: Flat
       BorderWidth: Hairline

Change the text box's SpecialEffect property to Shadowed. Note that the BorderWidth property changes to 3 pt.
Change the text box's SpecialEffect property to Flat. Note that the BorderWidth property does not change. The text box still has a 3 pt.-wide border.
