SYMPTOMS

When you use the Remove All (uninstall) option in Setup to remove a Microsoft Office installation that was configured for Lotus Notes support, you may receive the following error message:
Could not remove the file: _MSIMP32.DLL

CAUSE

This error message occurs when you are running a shared installation of Lotus Notes and you have Read-Only access to the shared Notes directory. During uninstall, Setup attempts to remove four DLLs from the Notes directory. Because you do not have delete privileges, Setup cannot remove the files, and the error message is displayed. The four DLLs that setup attempts to remove are:

_MSIMP32.DLL
_IXLS.DLL
_XXLS.DLL
MSCTHUNK.DLL

Most likely, you will receive a "Could not remove the file" error message for each of these DLLs.

STATUS

These error messages can be safely ignored. Click Ignore in each Alert dialog box. Setup continues with the uninstall and will remove Office from your computer.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
