CONTENTS

Dear Microsoft(R) Customer:

This package contains a converter which allows Microsoft Word 5.x for the Macintosh(R) to read files created by Word 6.0 for the Macintosh, Windows(TM), and Windows NT(TM). This converter is intended for users of Word 5.x who need to share files with users of Word 6.0. The converter contained in this package is same version that ships with Word 6.0.1 and addresses a memory problem that existed in the earlier version of the file.

If this shipment has arrived in unsatisfactory condition, please let us know. In the United States, call Microsoft Sales and Service at (800) 426- Outside the United States, contact your local Microsoft subsidiary.

To use the converter follow the setup instructions included in this letter.

If you have questions about installing or using the converter, one of our Product Support Services technicians will be glad to assist you. This converter only reads Word 6.0 files, and it does not support saving files into Word 6.0 format. Word 6.0 is capable of reading files from Word 5.x.

When converting Word 6.0 documents with OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) objects, only the result of those objects will be retained. This means that a converted file will display a picture of the object, but no binary OLE data is retained.

Note that those formatting features in Word 6.0 that do not exist in Word 5.x for the Macintosh will not be retained in conversion. A complete list is included in the file "Word 6.0 Conversion Information" which is included with the converter.

Thank you for your support of Microsoft products.
