SYMPTOMS
There are some changes you can make to the Hewlett-Packard (HP) LaserJet 4
Properties from Control Panel that you can't make from the Print or Printer
Setup dialog box in Microsoft Publisher. These include:
- Changing the amount of Printer memory
- Turning Page Protection on or off
- Adding or removing font cartridges
Even though you can't change these settings from Publisher, they are saved
with your publication. Therefore, if you turn off Page Protection in
Control Panel, your existing publications will still act as though Page
Protection is turned on.
RESOLUTION
Follow these steps to make sure that the printer properties in your
publications match the current HP LaserJet 4 properties:
- Open the publication.
- On the File menu, click Print Setup.
- From the list of installed printers, select a printer that is not an HP
LaserJet 4. Click OK.
- On the File menu, click Print Setup again.
- From the list of installed printers, select the HP LaserJet 4
again. Click OK.
You will have to do this for each of your publications for which you want
to update the LaserJet 4 properties.
NOTE: In most cases problems will not result if these properties are not
updated in all your publications. If you install a new font cartridge, for
example, it might not be important to you to update existing publications
that do not use any of the fonts in your new cartridge. If you are having a
printing problem that is caused by a Page Protection setting, however, you
will need to follow this procedure for each publication that exhibits the
problem.
STATUS
Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here in
the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
