------------------------------------------------------------------------- The information in this article applies to: - Microsoft Publisher for Windows 95, version 3.0 - Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, version 7.0 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- SYMPTOMS ======== If a Microsoft Excel object that is linked to a Publisher publication is changed from being a manual link to an automatic link, you may receive the following error message in Microsoft Excel when you try to edit the file that is the source of the link: Can't Open Printer Driver This error message appears if you change the target printer for the publication and delete or rename the old target printer before you change the link from manual to automatic. NOTE: This problem does not occur with linked objects from Microsoft Word. CAUSE ===== When you change a link from manual to automatic, Microsoft Excel checks the connection to the printer driver. Since the printer driver doesn't exist anymore, you get the error message. RESOLUTION ========== After you change a link from manual to automatic, but before you try to edit the linked Microsoft Excel file, click Print Setup on the File menu and choose the desired target printer. STATUS ====== Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Publisher version 3.0 for Windows 95.
