Upside-Down Text Frames Print Badly to Linotronic Driver

SYMPTOMS
========

If you print a publication that contains upside-down pages (such as a
greeting card or a tent card) to a very high-resolution PostScript printer,
such as a Linotronic, text frames on the upside-down pages may print
incorrectly. Specifically, the first few characters in each line of text
print on top of each other.

This problem only occurs if you use one of the high-resolution PostScript
printer drivers that ships with Windows 95. It does not occur if you use
the Microsoft Publisher Imagesetter printer driver that comes with
Publisher for Windows 95, version 3.0.

This problem only occurs with text frames on upside-down pages. If you
manually rotate a text frame and print it on a rightside-up page, it will
print correctly.

RESOLUTION
==========

If, for some reason, you can't use the Microsoft Publisher Imagesetter
printer driver to print to your high-resolution printer, you can make the
text frame so it will print correctly using the Windows 95 PostScript
driver.

1. Select the text frame and click Copy on the Edit menu.

2. Drag the text frame to the scratch area off the side of the page.

3. On the Edit menu, click Paste Special.

4. From the list of available data types, click Picture, and then click OK.

After you paste a text frame as a picture, you can no longer edit the text
in it. If you have to change the text later, you can use the extra copy of
the text frame on the scratch area to make the changes. You can then repeat
steps 1-4 to get an updated copy of the picture.

STATUS
======

This is not a problem with Publisher. This symptom will occur whenever you
print a document that contains upside-down pages to one of the Windows 95
high-resolution PostScript printer drivers.
