PUB3: Non-TrueType Fancy First Letters Display, Print Wrong

Q136350

-------------------------------------------------------------------- The information in this article applies to: - Microsoft Publisher for Windows 95, version 3.0 -------------------------------------------------------------------- SYMPTOMS ======== If you use a printer resident font or one of the Windows vector fonts (Modern, Roman, or Script) for a Fancy First Letter, the letter may be printed in the wrong size or in the wrong place. CAUSE ===== TrueType fonts provide Publisher with extensive information about each character's size and shape. Non-TrueType fonts do not provide this information. When you use a non-TrueType font, Publisher has to estimate the correct size and placement for the Fancy First Letter. This can result in improper size and/or placement of the Fancy First Letter. RESOLUTION ========== By default, when you apply a Fancy First Letter to a paragraph, the Fancy First Letter is in the same font as the first character of the paragraph. You can, however, use the following steps to choose to have it be a different font: 1. Select the paragraph that you want to add a Fancy First Letter to. 2. On the Format menu, click Fancy First Letter. 3. Click the general style of Fancy First Letter you want to use. 4. Click Custom Options. 5. Choose a TrueType font for your Fancy First Letter. 6. Click OK. STATUS ====== Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
