MXL5: Cannot Set the Number of Drop-Down Lines

Last reviewed: September 12, 1996

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, versions 5.0, 5.0a

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh and Power Macintosh, there is no option to set the number of drop-down lines for a drop-down control.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

When you click the arrow of the drop-down control, the list of items linked to the drop-down are displayed. In Microsoft Excel version 5.0 for Windows, you can set the number of entries (drop-down lines) that are displayed at one time by the drop-down. If the number of items in your list is greater than the number of drop-down lines, the drop-down inserts a scroll bar on the right to allow you to see all items in the list.

In Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh and Power Macintosh, you do not have the ability to set the number of drop-down lines; when you click the arrow of the drop-down, your whole list is displayed. If your list is too long for your screen, a triangle is placed at the bottom of your list, and if you scroll down to this triangle, the items in your list scroll up.
