SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, when you save your project file, the Title field may not contain the project file name as expected.

To locate the Title field, click Properties on the File menu, and then click the Summary tab.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if you display the Properties dialog box for your unsaved project and you click either OK or Cancel without entering a value in the Title field.

When you open the Properties dialog box for your project, if your project has not been saved, the unsaved project name appears in the Title field on the Summary tab. If you then click OK or Cancel in the Properties dialog box, the unsaved project name becomes the new title for your project, and this value is not updated to the project file name when you save the file.

If you save your project file before you display the Properties dialog box for the file, the file name automatically appears in the Title field, and when you save the file with a new file name, the new file name automatically appears in the Title field, and so on.

In general, the Title field automatically contains the project file name unless you display the Properties dialog box before you save the file or you manually enter another name in the Title field.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use the appropriate method for your situation.

Method 1: Type Your Title in the Title Field

If you have already displayed the Properties dialog box in your unsaved project, you can display the Properties dialog box again, and enter the desired title in the Title field on the Summary tab.

Method 2: Save the Project

If you have not displayed the Properties dialog box in your unsaved project, save your project so that the project file name automatically becomes the Title for the project.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
