-------------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Publisher for Windows 95, version 3.0
- Microsoft Publisher Design Pack, version 1.0
- Microsoft Special Occasions Design Pack, version 1.0
- Microsoft StyleLine Design Pack, version 1.0
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
SUMMARY
=======
All three of the Microsoft Design Packs are compatible with Microsoft
Publisher for Windows 95, version 3.0. The setup programs for the Design
Packs, however, will not be able to find Publisher for Windows 95 if
Publisher is installed in a folder with a long filename. If you want to
install the Design Pack to a folder with a long filename, you will have to
determine what the MS-DOS (short) filename for the folder is.
To Find the MS-DOS Filename of a Folder
---------------------------------------
The MS-DOS filename for a folder is usually the first six letters of its
long filename followed by a tilde (~) and a number. Therefore, a folder
called Program Files usually has an MS-DOS filename of Progra~1. A folder
called Microsoft Publisher usually has a MS-DOS filename of Micros~1. To
find the actual MS-DOS filename of a folder:
1. Double-click My Computer.
2. With the right mouse button, click the folder you are investigating.
3. Click Properties.
The MS-DOS name will be listed in the middle of the General tab.
MORE INFORMATION
================
If you upgrade to Publisher for Windows 95 from another version of
Publisher, this is usually not an issue, because Publisher 1.0 and 2.0
install by default to a folder called C:\Mspub. If you perform a new
installation of Publisher for Windows 95, its default location is
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Publisher.
If Publisher for Windows 95 is installed to a folder with a long filename,
the Design Pack setup programs will behave as follows:
Design Pack 1
-------------
During setup for the Publisher Design Pack, you will see this message:
The Publisher Design Pack must be installed in your Publisher
directory. Setup has detected the location of your Publisher
directory and placed it in the space below. If you aren't sure
where Publisher is located, or you think the location below is
correct, click Continue now. If you think that Publisher is installed
in a different location, type the name of the Publisher location in
the space below.
The suggested location is C:\Mspub. Change this to the path and folder that
contains Publisher for Windows 95.
Special Occasion Design Pack
----------------------------
During setup for the Special Occasion Design Pack, you will see this
message:
Setup is unable to find Publisher on your computer. The Publisher
Design Pack must be installed to the same place as your Publisher
files. Please enter the location of your Publisher directory below.
Once again, the suggested location is C:\Mspub. Change this to the path and
folder that contains Publisher for Windows 95.
StyleLine Design Pack
---------------------
During setup for the StyleLine Design Pack, you will see this message:
Setup did not find Microsoft Publisher 2.0 on your hard disk.
This application is required in order to use some of the
components contained in the StyleLine Design Pack.
If you continue, setup will suggest the default directories used
by Microsoft Publisher. Some components will not operate completely
until Microsoft Publisher 2.0 or higher is installed.
Do you want to continue installing the StyleLine Design Pack?
If you continue, Setup will probably suggest the correct folder. Make
sure that the directory is correct and continue.
