Publisher 3.0 Setup Errors After Inserting Windows Disk

Q137661

------------------------------------------------------------------------- The information in this article applies to: - Microsoft Publisher for Windows 95, version 3.0 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- SYMPTOMS ======== While running the Setup program for Publisher for Windows 95, you may see the following message: Publisher 3.0's Outside Printing feature helps you create publications that will print well at commercial printers and service bureaus. In order to install this feature, Setup requires files from your Microsoft Windows disks or network installation share. Do you want Publisher Setup to install this feature? If you click No, you can install this feature any time after Setup completes by following the instructions in the Installing Publisher's Outside Printers help topic in Publisher Help. If you click Yes, Publisher will ask you to insert one of your Windows disks. If, however, you insert the Windows disk in the same drive that you are installing Publisher from, Publisher Setup won't ask you to reinsert the Publisher disk. This occurs regardless of the media type, as long as they are the same: Publisher 95 on floppy and Windows 95 on floppy or Publisher 95 on CD-ROM and Windows 95 on CD-ROM. RESOLUTION ========== After you insert the final Windows disk that Setup asks you for, Setup will pause for awhile, then give you one of several possible error messages. "Cannot write to disk A:" "Setup needs to modify a file on A:\" "If you have write protected your disk with a write protect tab" "Cannot find D:\Setup.inf" Regardless of the specific error message, insert Publisher Disk 1 and click OK or Continue. MORE INFORMATION ================ Publisher installs two PostScript printer drivers that you can use if you want to use a commercial printing service. Some of the files for these PostScript files come with Windows 95. If you don't already have them, Publisher Setup will install them for you from your Windows 95 disks or compact disc. This problem does not occur if you copy your Windows 95 files from a different drive than the one you install Publisher from. STATUS ====== Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Publisher version 3.0 for Windows 95. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available. Additional query words: 3.00 pub3 pub95 w_mspub mspub floppy floppies switch
