SYMPTOMS

An In-Line formatted object that is wider than the width of a column in a multi-column document does not print as shown on the screen.

In the Page Layout view, the object appears truncated within the limits of the column. However, when you print or view the object in Print Preview, the object extends across the text of the adjacent column.

RESOLUTION

To prevent the object image from printing outside the column boundary, resize the object so that its width fits entirely within one column. To resize the object, do one of the following:

Click the object once, and then use the resize handles.

On the Format menu, click Picture. Enter a new size.

MORE INFORMATION

Changing the text wrap of the object from In-Line to Absolute causes the object to display on the screen in Page Layout view the same way it looks when it is printed.

To change the text wrap of an object, do the following:

Click once on the object that needs formatting.
On the Format menu, click Picture.
Click the Text Wrap tab.
Change the Text Wrap Settings from In-Line to Absolute.

Examples of in-line objects that exhibit this problem include WordArt, ClipArt, and Draw objects.
