PRA: Memo Field in Attached dBASE Table Is Overwritten

    The information in this article applies to:

    • Microsoft Access versions 1.0, 1.1, and 2.0

    SYMPTOMS

    When you add records to an attached dBASE table in a multiuser environment, the contents of a Memo field are overwritten.

    RESOLUTION

    To work around this problem, upgrade your installation of Microsoft Access with the Microsoft Access version 2.0 Service Pack.

    STATUS

    Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Access versions 1.0, 1.1, and 2.0. This problem no longer occurs with the Microsoft Jet database engine version 2.5, which is available with the Microsoft Access version 2.0 Service Pack.     Steps to Reproduce Problem

    1. Attach a dBASE file containing a Memo field to a shared Microsoft Access database.
    2. Open the Microsoft Access database on two different computers.
    3. Simultaneously, on both computers, add a new record with different text values in the Memo field.
    4. Close both tables on both computers.
    5. Reopen the tables. Note that both records contain the same value in the Memo field.
