This article describes how to resolve Microsoft Money-related printing problems in Microsoft Windows.

If you have problems printing in Money, use the following troubleshooting information that is related to your problem. After you work through a section, try to print again. If the problem is not resolved, try another troubleshooting section.

Check printing

Verify that the correct check type is selected. To verify the check type, use the appropriate method for your version of Money.

Microsoft Money 98 or later versions

  1. On the File menu, point to Print Setup, and then click Check Setup.
  2. In the Printer box, click the printer that you want to use.

    Note If the printer is not listed, you must connect to it. See Windows Help for instructions.
  3. Under Check, select the type and the source.
  4. If you want the payee address on all your checks, click to select the Require address for payee when printing checks check box, and then click OK.

    Note Before you start printing checks, make sure that you click Print this transaction in the Number box of the transactions that you are printing checks for. The Num column of checks that are ready to be printed indicate Print.

Microsoft Money 97

  1. On the File menu, point to Print Setup, and then click Check Setup.
  2. In the Print Setup dialog box, click Check Printing.
  3. In the Check Type box, select the correct check type, and then click OK.

Print offset

Align and printing checks in Money

  1. Verify that you have correctly loaded blank checks in the printer and that the printer is ready.

    If you do not want to waste checks, you may use a photocopy of your check form to test the printing.
  2. Open the account that contains the checks that you want to print.
  3. Verify that the transaction that you want to print has Print listed in the Number box.
  4. If Print is not listed, click the transaction, click Edit, in the Number box click Print this transaction, and then click Enter.
  5. On the File menu, click Print Checks.
  6. Click Print Test to print sample information to verify alignment.
  7. Adjust the alignment. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. For laser checks, click Options.

      Under Printing Alignment, make any changes that you want to make.
    2. For dot-matrix style checks, manually adjust the positioning of the blank checks in the printer.

      On the Print Checks tab of the Options dialog box, make sure that the alignment values are zero for all four check alignment settings.
  8. After you adjust your printer, repeat steps 4 and 5 to verify that the alignment is correct.

    Note When you print a partial sheet or a single check on a Hewlett-Packard LaserJet printer, if the Manual tray is not available or if you cannot print a partial sheet of laser checks correctly from the Manual tray, use the Envelope tray with the Center Feed option to print one check at a time. The checks will print correctly if the following conditions are true:
    • The printer is correctly installed.
    • The following correct settings are selected in the Print Setup dialog box.
      • Check type
      • Printer
      • Check Source
    • Checks are feeding correctly into the printer.
Note If you are using dot-matrix-compatible checks and are satisfied with the way that the test check prints, put a piece of tape on your printer case to help you remember where to align checks the next time. If you use a dot-matrix printer and notice that the fields on your printed checks are not correctly aligned with the preprinted forms, make sure that your printer is set to print 10 characters per inch.

Problems printing single checks

If you print a single check on a laser printer, make sure that it is the last check left on the sheet; that is, the one with the blank strip of paper attached. That strip makes sure that the alignment remains the same even with a single check. Additionally, always manually feed partial page checks (sheets with one or two checks left) and use the tray guides to center and to secure the checks in position.
