OFF4: Unimplemented Trap When Working with OLE Applications |
Q138637
In PowerPoint, when you try to insert ClipArt or start Graph 5.0, you may receive an error message similar to the following:
If you run System 7.5 or later, the Microsoft OLE Extension will no longer appear in the extensions list in Extensions Manager.Sorry, an unimplemented Trap in <application name>
The Microsoft OLE Extension has become corrupted, and Extensions Manager does not recognize the extension. In some cases, the size of the extension may be over 1.8 MB. Most likely this is not a problem with Extensions Manager.
You can correct this problem by deleting the Microsoft OLE Extension,
Microsoft OLE Library, Shared Code folder, and the Shared Code Manager (if
the Shared Code Manager is also not visible from Extensions Manager)--these
are all in the Extensions folder--and then reinstalling PowerPoint.
If you have other computers running Office with no problems, you can copy
these files from that machine to the troubled machine.
To be thorough, you should delete all the OLE components and reinstall
them. To do this:
Microsoft OLE Extension
Microsoft OLE Library
Microsoft Dialog Library
Shared Code (Folder)
Shared Code Manager
Microsoft PowerPoint
Tools
Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
Most likely you will notice the Unimplemented Trap error message when the server application calls the Microsoft OLE Extension. For example, Graph 5.0 calls the OLE Extension at launch time. However, ClipArt Gallery does not call the Microsoft OLE Extension until you double-click a thumbnail.
