PUB3: Can't Find File After Printing to File
PUB3: Can't Find File After Printing to File
Q138686
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Publisher for Windows 95, version 3.0
- Microsoft Windows 95
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
SYMPTOMS
========
After you create a publication and use the Print To File command, you can't
locate the print file.
CAUSE
=====
The Print To File dialog box defaults to the folder from which you last
opened a publication or inserted a text or picture file. This means, for
example, that if you import a picture from a folder called C:\Pictures and
then print your publication to a file, the Print To File dialog box
defaults to the C:\Pictures folder. If you don't notice this, you may have
a hard time finding your print file after you create it.
This dialog box is a standard Windows 95 dialog box. Publisher doesn't
have any control over how it behaves.
NOTE: If you are running Publisher on Windows NT, you get a different
Print To File dialog box, where you have to type in your path and
file name.
RESOLUTION
==========
When you create a print file, you can type in a full path as part of the
name you give it. For example, if the Print To File dialog box is
suggesting a location of C:\Pictures, you can give your file a name such as
C:\Output\My Publication.prn
and the file will be saved to your C:\Output folder. You can also use
the controls in the Print To File dialog box to choose which folder
or drive you want to save to.
STATUS
======
Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information
here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
