SYMPTOMS
The Tasks Starting Soon report includes tasks that have already started and may even be complete, instead of only printing tasks that should start soon.
CAUSE
The Tasks Starting Soon report uses the Date Range filter, which is an interactive filter requesting dates to use for generating a list of tasks. However, the filter does not have a parameter that distinguishes unstarted tasks from those that have already started within the range of dates supplied.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, create a modified copy of the
Date Range filter or create a new filter using the same parameters as the
Date Range filter with an additional parameter. Use the following steps to copy and modify the
Date Range filter:
- On the Project menu in Microsoft Project 98 (or the
Tools menu, in Microsoft Project 4.0 and 4.1), point to
Filtered For, and then click More Filters.
- In the Filters list, select Date Range and then click
Copy.
- In the Filter Definition dialog box, type a name for your
filter. For example, type Starting Soon. In
the And/Or column of the second line, type And.
- In the Field Name column in the next blank row, type
Actual Start. In the Test field in the
the same row, type Equals. In the
Value(s) field, type NA. Click
OK. Click Close.
- On the View menu, click Reports.
- In the Reports dialog box, click Custom and then click
Select.
- In the Custom Reports Dialog box, in the Reports list,
select Tasks Starting Soon, and then click Edit.
- Click the Definition tab. In the Filter list, select
the filter you created in step 3. Click OK.
- Click Print or Print Preview.
You should now see only those tasks that haven't started and that
qualify within the range of dates specified.
