SYMPTOMS
When you use the 3Com 3C590 network interface card (NIC) with Windows NT,
network errors occur.
CAUSE
This problem occurs in any network operating system. There is a problem
with the PCI busmastering on the 3Com 3C590 NIC.
RESOLUTION
To correct this problem, disable the PCI busmastering of the NIC by
modifying the registry:
WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious, system-wide
problems that may require you to reinstall Windows NT to correct them.
Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the use of
Registry Editor can be solved. Use this tool at your own risk.
- Run Registry Editor (REGEDT32.EXE).
- From the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE subtree, go to the following key:
\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\EL59X1\Parameters
- From the Edit menu, select Add Value.
- Add the following:
Value Name: Busmaster
Data Type: REG_SZ
Data: no
- Choose OK and quit Registry Editor.
- Shutdown and restart Windows NT.
