SYMPTOMS
On Windows 95, when you link to a file or picture and the path to the file
or picture is 253 or more characters long, you get the following error
message:
This is not a valid filename.
On Windows NT, version 3.51, when you link to a file or picture and the
path to the file or picture is 253 or more characters long, you get the
following error message:
There is not enough memory.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word for Windows 95 version
7.0. Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information
here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
WORKAROUND
Method 1:
Move the file or picture to a new location so that the path will
contain fewer than 253 characters.
Method 2:
Embed the file or picture rather then linking to it.
