MXL5: Notes Dialog Box Takes Long Time to Appear

Last reviewed: September 12, 1996

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, version 5.0, 5.0a

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel (the 68K Macintosh version only, not the Power Macintosh version) the Notes dialog box may take an unusually long time to appear if your document contains a large number of notes.

The length of time required to display the Notes dialog box depends on the number of notes and type of Macintosh you are using.

WORKAROUND

This problem has been addressed in Microsoft Excel version 5.0a. Microsoft Excel version 5.0a displays the Notes dialog box faster than version 5.0; however, the dialog box still takes a long time to be displayed.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

In Microsoft Excel, the Notes dialog box should appear almost immediately regardless of the number of notes on a given worksheet. However, if you have 5,000 notes on a worksheet, the dialog box may take over two minutes to be displayed; if your document contains over 10,000 notes, the dialog box may take between four and ten minutes to appear.
