The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, version 5.0
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, version 5.0
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows NT, version 5.0
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, version 7.0

The number of menu items that can be added to a custom or default menu bar is limited by available system resources.

Although the default limit is 254 menu items, the actual number of menu items that can be added to a menu bar is affected by availability of system resources (memory available, number of add ins loaded, and so on.)
