CONTENTS OF README.TXT

VFKBTOO1.EXE contains a Windows 3.x Help file that consists of Microsoft Visual FoxPro Knowledge Base articles about topics other than Programming or using Visual FoxPro Tools.

USING VFKBTOO1.EXE

  1. Place VFKBTOO1.EXE in the directory that you want to contain the Help
file. 2. From a command prompt, run VFKBTOO1.EXE to uncompress (extract) it. When uncompressed, this file creates the following files:

   VFKBTOO1.HLP The Help file
VFKBTOO1.IDX The Index for the Help file
SOURCES.TXT Other Sources of Microsoft Support Information
   README.TXT This file
FTENGINE.DLL System File Needed for Full-Text Search Capabilities
FTUI.DLL System File Needed for Full-Text Search Capabilities
MVAPI.DLL System File Needed for Full-Text Search Capabilities

  • If your Windows SYSTEM directory does not already contain the three .DLL files listed above, or if they have older file dates than the ones extracted from VFKBTOO1.EXE, place the three new .DLL files in your Windows SYSTEM directory.

Notes About the Size of VFKBTOO1.EXE

VFKBTOO1.EXE contains a Help file for Windows 3.x systems. In order for Windows 3.x Help to perform a full-text search, an index (.IDX) file is needed. This index file is usually larger than the Help file (.HLP) itself. This means that VFKBTOO1.EXE, which contains both the .HLP AND the .IDX file, may be quite large.

However, a Windows 95 (and Windows NT 3.51) Help file does not require an index file to perform full-text searches, and therefore the self-extracting file containing it is much smaller than its Windows 3.1 counterpart. For the Windows 95 Help file containing the same Knowledge Base articles, obtain VFKBTOOL.EXE.
