      On the Edit menu, click Go To, and then click Other Location
      Type mssupport
      Double-click the MS Software Library icon
      Find the appropriate product area

VFKB-GE1.EXE contains a Windows 3.x Help file that consists of Microsoft Visual FoxPro Knowledge Base articles about general (non-programming or tools) topics.

USING VFKB-GE1.EXE

Place VFKB-GE1.EXE in the directory that you want to contain the Help

file. 2. From a command prompt, run VFKB-GE1.EXE to uncompress (extract) it. When uncompressed, this file creates the following files:

   VFKB-GE1.HLP  The Help file
   VFKB-GE1.IDX  The Index for the Help file
   SOURCES.TXT  Other Sources of Microsoft Support Information
   README.TXT    This file
   FTENGINE.DLL System File Needed for Full-Text Search Capabilities
   FTUI.DLL     System File Needed for Full-Text Search Capabilities
   MVAPI.DLL    System File Needed for Full-Text Search Capabilities

If your Windows SYSTEM directory does not already contain the three .DLL files listed above, or if they have older file dates than the ones extracted from VFKB-GE1.EXE, place the three new .DLL files in your Windows SYSTEM directory.

Notes About the Size of VFKB-GE1.EXE

VFKB-GE1.EXE contains a Help file for Windows 3.x systems. In order for Windows 3.x Help to perform a full-text search, an index (.IDX) file is needed. This index file is usually larger than the Help file (.HLP) itself. This means that VFKB-GE1.EXE, which contains both the .HLP AND the .IDX file, may be quite large.

However, a Windows 95 (and Windows NT 3.51) Help file does not require an index file to perform full-text searches, and therefore the self-extracting file containing it is much smaller than its Windows 3.1 counterpart. For the Windows 95 Help file containing the same Knowledge Base articles, obtain VFKB-GEN.EXE.
