Macintosh Office 4.2.1b Maintenance Release Q&A

 1. Q. What is in the Microsoft Office maintenance release?

    A. The release includes several fixes that are available separately and
online. The Office 4.2.1b release includes:

        - The patch that updates version 4.2.1 or 4.2.1a of the Microsoft
Office Manager (MOM) to version 4.2.1b. The patch corrects a
problem you may encounter when you use MOM on a Macintosh running
          System 7.5.2.

        - Version 1.0.1 of the Office4.2x Update for Power Mac extension.
The update fixes a problem when you use version 1.0 of the
extension and Global Village TelePort or PowerPort fax software.

        - Microsoft Word 6.0.1a. This version incorporates version 1.0.1
of the Office4.2x Update for Power Mac extension. Please note
that version 6.0.1a is a silent release. This information is for
          Microsoft or Partner use only.

        - Compliance checking that recognizes Claris Works as a qualifying
          upgrade product for Office.

        - An updated Readme file.

 2. Q. If customers already have Office 4.2.1 or 4.2.1a, should they get
       Office 4.2.1b?

    A. To obtain the update, customers should have a Power Macintosh
or have System 7.5.2 and should be experiencing any of the
       following:

        - Problems using MOM

          -or-

        - System Type 11 error messages when starting a Power Macintosh
program or when using QuickDraw GX

          -or-

        - An inability to upgrade to Office 4.2.1 or 4.2.1a even though
Claris Works is installed on the computer

 3. Q. When will I be able to order Office 4.2.1b in Workbench OE (order
       entery) System?

    A. Office 4.2.1b is in OE now. To find it, click Parts, select Office
as the Business Unit, and click Office for the Mac in the Product
list. If a customer requests 4.2.1b, you can order the disk set,
however, the disks will not ship until early January 1996.

 4. Q. When will Microsoft ship Office 4.2.1b?

    A. Although Office 4.2.1b is available in OE, Microsoft expects to
fulfill Office 4.2.1b disk orders in early January 1996. Set your
customer's expectation to receive the disks by the end of February
       1996.

 5. Q. What should I do if my customer needs Office 4.2.1b now?

    A. Send the customer the MOM patch and the Office4.2x Update for
Power Mac extension, version 1.0.1. You may want to respond to your
customer by stating something like the following:

"Microsoft has released to manufacturing a maintenance release to
Mac Office version 4.2.1b. Unfortunately the product will not be
available to send to our customers until January of 1996. However,
we can send you the updated components today to effectively update
your system to Office 4.21b without having to do a complete
       reinstallation of Office."
