How to Save Personal Macro Workbook When Excel Is Open

The following Visual Basic macro allows you to hide and save the changes made in your Personal Macro Workbook.

To Create the Macro

Type the following into a Visual Basic module sheet in your Personal Macro Workbook:

   Sub HideAndSavePersonalMacroWorkbook()
      ' Hides the workbook.
      ThisWorkbook.Windows(1).Visible = False
      ' Saves the workbook after it is hidden.
      ThisWorkbook.Save
   End Sub
				

To Use the Macro

1. Select the Personal Macro Workbook.
2. To activate the macro, click Macro on the Tools menu, and run the HideAndSavePersonalMacroWorkbook macro.
   
   In Microsoft Excel 97, click Macros on the Tools menu, click HideAndSavePersonalMacroWorkbook, and then click Run.
   
   In Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, point to Macro on the Tools menu, and then click Macros. Click HideAndSavePersonalMacroWorkbook, and then click Run.

This procedure hides the Personal Macro Workbook and then saves it in the folder (directory) to which it was saved previously. The Personal Macro Workbook is normally saved in the XLStart subdirectory of Microsoft Excel, or in the alternate startup directory (to set this directory, click Options on the Tools menu, and click the General tab). When you run this macro, you will not be prompted to save changes in your Personal Macro Workbook when you quit Microsoft Excel.
