How to Determine How Much of Program's Reserved Memory Is Used

    SUMMARY

    On the Macintosh, you can set the amount of memory you want the operating system to reserve for an program. You can also determine how much of the memory reserved for a program is actually being used by that program.

    To determine the memory usage of a particular program, use the following steps:

    1. Click the Finder and click Hide to hide the program.
    2. On the Balloon Help menu, click Show Balloons.
    3. On the Apple menu, click About This Macintosh.
    4. In the About This Macintosh dialog box, click the gray rectangle next to the program's memory allocation number.

    The balloon contains text similar to the following:

       This program is currently using 4,217K out of the 6,144K
       reserved for it.
