How to Find SideWinder PID and Firmware Revision Numbers |
This article describes how to determine the Product ID (PID) number and firmware revision number of your SideWinder or SideWinder 3D Pro. You may need these numbers for troubleshooting problems with your joystick.
WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that
may require you to reinstall Windows 95. Microsoft cannot guarantee that
problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved.
Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
To determine the firmware revision number, use Registry Editor to view the
value in the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSInput\Joystick\SideWinder 3D Pro
To determine the PID number, use any text editor (such as Notepad) to view
the Msinput.ini file. View the following line in the [Joystick] section of
the file:
PID=XXXXX-XXX-XXXXXXX-XXXXX (user name) NOTE: In the "When You Have a Question" section of the PSS Help file,
the text states:
To find the PID, point at a feature in the software, click the
right mouse button, then click About.
There is no About box available for SideWinder joysticks. This is a global
PSS Help file for all products.
