Last reviewed: July 22, 1997

The information in this article applies to:

  • The Microsoft Network versions 1.0, 1.05, 1.2, 1.3, 2.0, 2.5

SYMPTOMS

When you send an e-mail message with an attachment to an America Online address, the message may not be delivered. When this occurs, you do not receive a non-delivery message.

CAUSE

America Online does not accept messages with attachments that exceed 1 MB. This limit applies to the size of the attachment after it is encoded using UUENCODE, which generally increases the size of the attachment. MSN, The Microsoft Network, automatically encodes atttachments with UUENCODE before sending the message.

RESOLUTION

Make sure that attachments are smaller than 1 MB, so that they do not exceed this size limit after being encoded.
