WD: InsertTableOfFigures Command Includes Heading Styles

Q143536

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

A table of figures created by a WordBasic macro shows the wrong text. Instead of listing the figure numbers and their captions, it shows text from all the heading paragraphs.

CAUSE

The WordBasic command InsertTableOfFigures uses the .Outline argument to identify which text in the document is to be included in the table. 1 indicates that heading styles should be used; 0 indicates that captions should be used. This argument is set to 1 by default.

When writing a macro that includes the InsertTableOfFigures command, be sure to include the argument .Outline and set it to the appropriate value (1 to include the outline headings; 0 to include captions only.)

For example, the following macro creates a table of figures based on captions only:

   Sub Main
      InsertTableOfFigures .Outline = 0, .Caption = "Figure", .Label = 1
   End Sub

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Word for Windows version's listed above. This problem was corrected in Word 97 for Windows and Word 98 Macintosh Edition.
