SYMPTOMS
When you insert a table in a text column, you may receive unexpected
results for the width of the table.
CAUSE
The table was inserted into a text column with a different width as
compared to the width of another text column. Word bases the width of the
table on the dimensions of the smallest text column to ensure that the
table will fit into any column even if a column break is deleted. This
behavior is by design.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, manually adjust the size of the table. To do
this, follow these steps:
- Place the insertion point in the table.
- On the Table menu, click Cell Height And Width, and click the Column
tab.
- In the Width Of Column 1 box, type the size of the column.
- Click Next Column and enter the size of the column.
- Repeat step 4 for each additional column of the table.
- Click OK.
