PRJ4: Overwriting Link Causes GP Fault When Saving File

SYMPTOMS

When you save a project in Microsoft Project, you may receive the following error message:

Application Error
WINPROJ4 caused a General Protection Fault in module WINPROJ.EXE at <the location may change>
This error may indicate that the file had OLE links to external data which have been overwritten.


WORKAROUND

To avoid this problem, open both the source file and the destination file before overwriting OLE-linked data.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.
