Updated Pointer Files Available for Download

The information in this article applies to:

SUMMARY

Microsoft has released an update of the Point32.exe and Point32.dll files to correct problems with the previous versions.

NOTE: Version 1.1 or later of the Microsoft IntelliPoint software must be installed on your computer before you can install this update.

The Point32 drivers have been modified to address known problems with the SnapTo and PointerWrap features that were causing general protection faults in some 16-bit applications. Changes have also been added to correct known problems when interacting with some third party software programs.

If you are running version 1.0 of the Microsoft IntelliPoint software, contact the Microsoft Order Desk at (800) 360-7561 to obtain version 1.1 of the IntelliPoint software before you download this update.

Make sure that you have your product identification (PID) number ready when you call. Please see the "More Information" section of this article for instructions on how to find your PID.

If your IntelliPoint software version 1.1 installation disks are damaged, call the Microsoft Order Desk phone number listed above to obtain replacement disks.

How to Find Your PID

To find your PID, use the appropriate method for your operating system.

MS-DOS

  1. Exit Windows (if it is running).


  2. Put the IntelliPoint driver disk into a floppy disk drive, and then change to that drive letter.


  3. Type setup, and then press ENTER.


  4. In the first dialog box, choose Exit, and then press ENTER. Your PID number is shown in the next dialog box that appears on the screen.


Windows 3.x

  1. Double-click IntelliPoint Tools And Controls in the Microsoft Input Devices group in Program Manager.


  2. On the Control menu (to the left of the title bar), click About. Your PID number is shown in the dialog box that appears on the screen.


Windows 95

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Input Devices, and then click IntelliPoint Tools And Controls.


  2. Right-click the title bar, and then click About. Your PID number is shown in the dialog box that appears on the screen.
