SYMPTOMS
When you open a message using the Microsoft Exchange Client for Windows
3.x, Windows 95, or Windows NT, the following error message appears:
The item could not be displayed. You've exceeded the maximum amount
of text.
CAUSE
You open, compose, or change a message that has a greater number of
characters than 1,048,576 (0x100000 hex), the message body size limitation
of Microsoft Exchange, version 4.0.
The above error message can also be received in the following cases:
- There are problems loading or opening attachments.
Check for low disk space, because the client needs to save the
attachments temporarily on the local machine.
- The client computer is low on memory.
Close some applications and try the operation again.
WORKAROUND
- Save the message in the Microsoft Exchange Viewer, by first selecting
it, and then clicking Save As from the File menu.
- Send large messages as attachments because each OLE object and file
attachment counts as exactly one character only.
