FP1: 500 Server Error Using Demos in Winhttpd Web

SYMPTOMS

When you browse the Winhttpd web and attempt to activate the links for any image map example, you receive one of the following errors:

   500 Server Error: The server encountered an internal error or
   misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

-or-

   Couldn't open output file. Check your TEMP env. Var.

This problem does not prevent you from creating your own image maps; it only affects the CGI demos.

CAUSE

You are using the 32-bit version of the FrontPage Personal Web Server which is installed when you are using the Windows NT or Windows 95 operating system.

The FrontPage Setup program installs the Winhttpd folder in the Content folder. The Winhttpd folder contains CGI demos written for Windows 3.1 CGI specification 1.0, which is supported by the 16-bit version of the FrontPage Personal Web Server. The 32-bit version of the FrontPage Personal Web Server supports the Windows CGI specification version 1.1. As a result, you get the above errors if you are using Windows NT or Windows 95.
