XCON: IMC Does Not Use the Resent-From Field

SYMPTOMS

When a Microsoft Exchange user replies to a message sent from an SMTP address, the reply is not sent to the address indicated in the Resent-From field. The reply will be sent to the address in the From field instead.

CAUSE

Version 4.0 of Microsoft Exchange does not implement the Resent-From field.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Exchange Server version 4.0. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Exchange Server 4.0 U.S. Service Pack 2. For information on obtaining the service pack, query on the following word in the Microsoft Knowledge Base (without the spaces):

Microsoft Exchange Service Pack 1 will allow you to set a registry value to determine the field precedence order that the Microsoft Exchange Internet Mail Connector (IMC) will use for replies. The registry entry is ResentHeadersHavePrecedence and is located in:
Hkey_local_machine\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\
