  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, versions 4.0, 5.0, 5.0a

SYMPTOMS

In the versions of Microsoft Excel listed at the beginning of this article, you may receive an error message when trying to access one of the Microsoft Excel add-ins if you use the Diskfit backup utility.

The following is an example of the error message you may receive when trying to use the View Manager add-in

   Cannot find 'Macintosh HD:[PBPrograms]:Microsoft Office:
Microsoft Excel 5:Macro Library: [View Manager] Views xlm'!
   mcp01.ShowViews.'

where the path name to the file contains a folder with brackets around it. In this example the folder is PBPrograms, which is the location of the Microsoft Office folder.

MORE INFORMATION

Diskfit is a backup utility for the Macintosh that uses brackets to designate which folders are not to be backed up. This is a problem when accessing files that are stored in these folders because Microsoft Excel uses brackets to differentiate a workbook from a worksheet.
