SYMPTOMS
When you install Office 7.0, an ~Oleapp.doc file may appear in the
<drive>:\Temp folder (where <drive> is your hard disk drive). If you delete
the file, and restart the computer, a new ~Oleapp.doc file appears in the
folder.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs when the following conditions are met:
- You install Office on a computer that has a Temp folder at the root
level of the hard disk.
-and-
- Microsoft Office Fast Start is located in the Microsoft Windows 95
Startup folder.
Microsoft Office Fast Start creates the file in order to test OLE calls.
Fast Start does not create the file if the temporary folder is set to a
path other than the one at the root level.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, delete the Temp folder at the root level, and
create a new temporary folder that is not at the root level of the hard
disk.
NOTE: Windows 95 defaults to the Windows\Temp folder for temporary files.
Any other temporary file storage location is unnecessary unless another
program requires it.
