PRB: Lights Have No Effect on Particles.

Last reviewed: April 25, 1996
Article ID: Q148654
The information in this article applies to:
  • Particle included with Softimage 3D Extreme for IRIX, version 3.0
  • Particle added on to Softimage 3D for IRIX, version 3.0

SYMPTOMS

No effect is made on Particles by lights within a scene unless Particles are imported into Softimage 3D as geometry.

CAUSE

By design, Particles are not volumetric. They have their own glow, but they do not cast shadows and lights within a scene have no effect on them.

However, if Particles are imported into Softimage 3D as geometry, lights produce the same effects on them as with all geometric elements.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
