SYMPTOMS
After you remove the Microsoft Client for NetWare Networks with the
Microsoft Service for NetWare Directory Services installed, the following
error message is generated:
The NetWare-compatible shell is not available. Contact your network
administrator.
After this message is displayed, you cannot access the network correctly.
CAUSE
The Microsoft Service for NetWare Directory Services is still installed.
Removing the Microsoft Client for NetWare Networks prior to removing the
Microsoft Service for NetWare Directory Services removes registry
information other programs may require.
RESOLUTION
To correct this problem, reinstall the Microsoft Client for NetWare
Networks. To do so, follow these steps:
- In Control Panel, double-click Network.
- On the Configuration tab, click Add.
- Click Client, and then click Add.
- Click the Microsoft Client for NetWare Networks, and then click OK.
- Restart Windows.
After you reinstall the Microsoft Client for NetWare Networks, follow
these steps to remove the services:
- In Control Panel, double-click Network.
- Click the "Service for NetWare Directory Services", and then click
Remove.
- Click the Client for NetWare Networks, and then click Remove
- Click OK.
- Restart Windows.
